Seminar in IPM on economic planning touches on farmer suicides, governance

Au00a0seminar on National Economic Planning was organised by the students of Institute for Promotion of Mathematics (IPM), Pune yesterday at the MCCIA Hall on Senapati Bapat Road. The students had to speak on five topics that is 'Global aid is a chimera', 'India should divide larger states for better governance and development', 'economic impact of global warming is more of hoax', 'politicians should be asked to work for free' and finally 'inclusive growth is more of a populist'.

The most interesting one "Politicians should be made to work for free" saw heated arguments from both the teams. After the completion of each topic there was a question round, wherein one could clarify their doubts.
There was immense participation not only from the students but also the judges who played their part by sharing their valuable thoughts. Slides on economic growth and agricultural development were shown which depicted statistical figures.
The research was carefully meted out to ensure that the data was accurate and crisp. The topic, India should be divided showed the current situation in Vidarbha and Telangna. In addition reasons were given as to why these areas were not able to prosper.
The topic also touched on farmer suicides and the students suggested ideas as to how these areas could be made prosperous. Another one, 'politicians should be made to work for free' had the audience in splits, courtesy a video clip shown on how our politicians indulge in relentless squandering of money.
The panel of judges comprised Debjyoti Majumdar, the dean of the institute and economics professor Rath.

In all, the entire event was a veritable amalgamation of thoughts and ideas, put together by the students and teachers.
