Area police receive 50 calls in a single night. Most of them for minor altercations, say cops

The Delhi Police never sleeps. Especially those posted in the outer Delhi district of Sultanpuri.
Apart from the reason of being alert to their duty, the cops attached to the Sultanpuri police station have to play mediators to the "quarrelsome people" of the locality.

Monday night was just another night of hectic work for the cops, as they received no less than 50 calls related to minor altercations from various areas falling under their jurisdiction.

However, it did not surprise them as according to a police officer it was "a routine affair."

"This is very common in this area. We got 50 cases of minor fights between residents of the area tonight (Monday). Our officers reached the spot and play mediators, solving the problems of the people helping them reach a compromise," he said.

"A number of slums fall in our area and the maximum complaints come from these areas only," the officer added.
In some of the cases, opposing groups used homemade weapons too.
"In most of the incidents, it was usually one-on-one but in some cases two groups were involved who had injured some people with lathis and other weapons," the officer added.

These areas of Delhi are notorious for such incidents and the cops posted in the area are always on their tows. On Monday night most of the cops of the Sultanpuri Police station were in the field to play peacemakers to the warring neighbours.

About 10 people suffered injuries in minor fighting cases in the area on Monday night.
