With his speeches on women empowerment, he did not bring up Kalpana Giri’s story, a member of his own party murdered by Congress workers, in his Latur rally yesterday

Sena’s Neelam Gorhe has requested Governor K Shankarnarayanan to appoint advocate Ujjwal Nikam on Kalpana’s case
Kalpana was a general secretary of Latur youth Congress, who was allegedly raped and murdered on March 21 this year, while she returning from a birthday party of MLA Amit Deshmukh.
Two days later, her body was fished out from a reservoir from Tuljapur taluka. The Latur police have arrested two people - Mahendra Singh Chauhan and Samir Noor Minav Killarikar. Gorhe has already demanded suspension of Chauhan, who is the president of Latur youth Congress and also his father who represents Congress.
Gorhe has already demanded police protection to Giri’s family informing that the whole family is facing tremendous pressure from some political outfits.
“While Rahul Gandhi, in his every speech, talks about woman empowerment, how come he did not mentioned Kalpana’s case even once in his speech in Latur? Kalpana was part of his own party,” Gorhe asked.
“I have submitted a memorandum to Governor K Shankarnarayanan requesting him to appoint Advocate Ujjwal Nikam on Kalpana’s case. He conveyed his consent on this and has forwarded it to the chief minister and deputy chief minister,” she added.
“On Monday, the police arrested another convict in connection to Kalpana’s case. The viscera report is still awaited,” Gorhe said.
When asked on the recent political developments in the Konkan region where NCP MLA of Sawantwadi in Sindhudurg district, Deepak Keasrkar, resigned and is now supporting the Shiv Sena in the poll campaigns, she said, “Sena party chief Uddhavji has welcomed Kesarkar’s decision.
His differences with Congress leader Narayan Rane is the reason why he is now supporting the Sena. This proves how terrifying the atmosphere is presently there.” Even after NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s intervention on the matter, Kesarkar on resigned on Monday.
