On Friday, the institute was full of female employees and women from nearby areas who wanted to avail training on techniques they could use to defend themselves. The camp was offered free of cost. Munesh Kumar Kulshrestha, general secretary of the Senior Railway Institute, said, “The camp was organised so that female passengers and employees can fight back if facing a dangerous situation. Simple karate training has been given to the women.”
Over 50 women participated in the session and expressed satisfaction with what they learnt. “The feedback we got was so positive that we are planning to organise another camp next month. This will basically help the women to protect themselves. They travel at all times of the day and sometimes they have to travel alone at night,” he added.
Bharat Chauhan and his students conducted the training camp. The institute also conducts yoga, dance and karate camps for the benefit of the railway employees and passengers. Those interested in attending the camp next month have to register their names at the institute.
