Last weekend brought surprise and shocks to Eco Space, a leading IT campus in the city thanks to actor, director and script writer Upendra.
Upi, who is back as director after 10 years, chose a software professional on the spot, offered him a role, trained him for five minutes and made him act in his latest movie Super.
Vishwanath S, the employee at the campus, who was picked by Upi, looked very pleased. "It is unbelievable.
It was all so instantaneous that it has still not sunk in that I have had the good fortune to act in Upendra's movie," said Vishwanath, the general secretary, ORRCA, (outer ring road companies association).
Man of surprises
Upendra is widely known among his peers as the 'real star' for his unique way of making movies. He is also known for the unusual surprises he springs on people.
However, this time, unlike people associated with the movie industry, it is a techie, who has had the luck to be at the receiving end of his happy surprise.
Upendra, who was in Eco Space to shoot sequences for Super on Saturday, shot from early in the morning till late into the night, sprung his surprise for the day by offering a techie the role of a software professional in his movie.
"We had heard that Upendra is a director with a difference," said a software professional, who requested anonymity.

"He is an absolutely unique guy. He shocked everybody by offering one of our colleagues a chance to act when there are thousands of trained actors who would want to act for him," said the IT professional, who works for Eco Space.
Upendra's unexpected move equally shocked, Vishwanath, a senior software professional, who made his debut in the Kannada film industry, while keeping his day job.
"I had never imagined that I would get to be an actor some day. He offered me a role and assured me that he would train me on the spot.
He did thatu00a0 and even wrote dialogues for me. Everything happened so instantaneously and it took a mere three takes.

I later learnt that he had held auditions for this role and not one had measured up to his exacting standards," said Vishwanath.
Smoking trouble
After the news of Upi's arrival spread, a crowd of admirers assembled at the spot and the crew was forced to take another break.
"He took a second break as he learnt of the techies and fans' gathering," said Vishwanath. "He managed to disperse the crowd by giving autographs and posing with fans for photographs," said Vishwanath.
