The interiors boast of urban propaganda and nihilist slogans
The first thing at Zook that struck me was the vibrant street graffiti on the staircase wall. The space inside boasts of urban propaganda, nihilist slogans, and postmodern gestures. The London based graffiti artist Bansky's famous Flower Chucker finds itself embedded behind the perforated sheets. Climb a floor higher and a 'young lion' image of Joel Brodsky's inebriated Jim Morrison stares back at you as also lanky youngsters taking long drags from a sheesha.
The Stroganoff affairu00a0
And the food here adds to the mood. You can order an Iced Gazpacho. The southern Andalusian tomato-based vegetable soup is perfect for a hot summer day. Or raise the temperature with a hot peri peri breast of chicken. Or choose from the regular varieties of salads, pastas, sandwiches and Indian fare.
If pizza is your staple diet, get it custom-made by choosing veg and non-veg toppings of your choice. I tried the oven-roasted chicken breast served with grilled ratatouille. Pre-heated oven, skin side down, I didn't dwell on details about the chicken or the ratatouille for that matter.
My rule book says it very simplyu00a0-- see good food, shut up and dig in your fork. A grilled lamb chop was next, however for meat that looked like a rib it appeared like a leg or shoulder chop that needs a little more marinating. The vegetable stroganoff, yes, we can take out meat from any dish and still sell it, was delectable, something I had not expected at all.
Dry Day
Unfortunately, I landed at the place on a wrong day, few days before it was to be awarded a bar license. So I ended up sipping mocktails and shakes. Now that leaves nothing much to talk about but the double Oreo delight with its hot fudge sauce was worth taking to the straw.
Zook has nothing to do with Zouk, the oldest nightclub in Singapore, but it's owner Jaspal Singh Teja, (apart from the other 20 other urban colloquial interpretations) knows the word means 'to party'.u00a0 And, he has to because the man has another profession nameu00a0-- DJ Reki.
That perhaps is going to be the biggest USP of this new place. The man is passionate about making the joint a hub where people hang out, enjoy good music and become his friends, of course make him some money in the process. From the d ufffdcor, food to the peppy name itself, there indeed is music everywhere now we have to wait and watch if Delhiites are eager to discover it.
