Noted Bengali filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh passes away in Kolkata after a massive heart attack. He was 49
Born and brought up in Kolkata, Ghosh was the son of documentary filmmaker Sunil Ghosh.

He started his career in advertising. After making hundreds of ads, he went behind the camera in 1994 to direct his first film "Hirer Angti".
The filmmaker, went on to win u00a012 national awards in various categories. His 2012 directional venture "Chitrangada" won him a special jury award at the 60th National Film Awards ceremony.
For "Arekti Premer Golpo", "Memories In March" and "Chitrangada", he faced the camera to show his acting skills. 49-yr-old Ghosh had won several national and international awards for his work.
Ghosh, who was suffering from pancreatitis, passed away at his residence around 7.30 a.m., his colleague Gautam Ghosh told reporters.
Shocked colleagues and friends gathered at the home of the much awarded filmmaker as news of the death spread.u00a0

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condoled the death of renowned film-maker, saying it was a very sad day for Bengal. "We are stunned. In his sudden demise, Bengal has lost an eminent filmmaker. It is a very sad day for us," Banerjee, who visited Ghosh's residence this morning, said.

To enable people to pay their last respect to the director, his body would be kept at Nandan film complex from 3.30 PM to 6 PM, she said. Thereafter, the body would be taken to the Tollygunj Technician studio before cremation, the chief minister said.
