Ritu's got designs on politics

Designer will attend Vijay Goel's portal launch today

In this election season when celebrities are stepping out in hordes to back candidates and parties, designer

diva Ritu Beri has not been left untouched. She will be attending Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from New Delhi constituency Vijay Goel's website launch today. She speaks to MiD DAY about why she prefers supporting deserving candidates and not their parties

Have you ever designed for Goel?
No, I have never designed his clothes. He has never asked me to design for him.

Do you support the BJP's ideologies?
I know a few BJP leaders and I appreciate their work. I support individual leaders and not their political parties. I know many leaders in the Congress too including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister P Chidambaram, Kamal Nath and Kapil Sibal, the Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences. I also know the civil aviation minister, Praful Patel, from the NCP. I will support the leader who will work in the interest of the country.

Have you ever designed the wardrobe of any politician?
Yes, I have designed garments for many leaders. But I design their clothes as a gesture of friendship and not professionally.

There were rumours that you have designed clothes for Priyanka Gandhi...
No, I have never designed anything for Priyanka. And I do not want to reveal the names of the politicians for whom I have designed clothes.
