Fat oafs: Split
A few hours from now, commencing the launch of Harley Rock Riders, an annual music platform which merges the spirit of motorcycling and rock n roll, two bands will jam it out in the capital as a part of a five city tour.
The heady mixture of 'motorcycles, madness and mayhem' will tour Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai after performing in Delhi.
The lineup consists of Split, Them Clones, Thermal and a Quarter, Menwhopause, Native Tongue and a revived Indus Creed. "Self-expression is what Harley is all about and that is what connects us with rock music, and we are proud it," says Sanjay Tripathi, director marketing, Harley Davidson, who is behind the tour.
Strumming on a Steel Horse
The first one of the two bands to perform in Delhi was born in 'a mosh pit in some dingy corner of a still dingier club in Mumbai'. Split, the grudge band of 2001 made up of the five fatalities of a whacked youth who decided to put their noise to good use has come a long way since their transformed themselves in 2004. They have given a new meaning to their 'wit and drunken wisdom,' and their forthcoming song 60 seconds proves that. "It was conceived on a motorbike in facing the frustrating countdown timer at a traffic light in Mumbai," says rhythm guitarist of the band Melroy D'mello.u00a0 It is such creations that one might be able to witness today.
The other band supporting them today is Delhi's own Them Clones interestingly born around the same time in 2000, an aptly timed result of the Alt-rock attractiveness of the 90s. Since then they too have covered miles releasing their first album Love.Hate.Heroes, last year and winning the Jack Daniel's Rock Awards 2009 for it's number My Life.
Thrill ride
But the thrill doesn't stop here the next three months will see Split supported by Indus Creed in Mumbai, Native Tongue in Hyderabad and Thermal and A Quarter in Bangalore as they perform for the tour. The tour will end with a grand finale to be held on the 4th of December at Pragati Maidan in Delhi. However, it the Indus Creed's come back in a new 'avatar' that their fans seem to be curious about. The band itself is upbeat about it. "It's an ideal platform to bring back Indus Creed. We love Harley-Davidsons. And what a sound they make. We'd like the sound of the new Indus Creed to be just that-powerful and exquisite," says Uday Benegal, lead singer of Indus Creed.
