The Maharashtra Tourism and Development Corporation (MTDC) will spend Rs 15 crore on a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj museum at Raigad fort.

"We want historians and experts to come forward and help us with the project. We've asked people to help us ideate on the look of the museum as well," said Dr Avinash Dhakne, director, tourism of Maharashtra and joint managing director of MTDC.

The museum depicting the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Veermata Jijau will be set up at Pachad, which is at the foothills of the well-known Raigad Fort. The project has been titled Shiv Shrushti. The State government has also demarcated over five acres at the foothills of the fort. The date when work on the museum will start is yet to be decided.

"We plan to organise audio-video documentaries on his life too. This project has been planned and initiated by the state government as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Maharashtra state's formation," he added.

The MTDC has set a deadline of July 5 for receiving the proposals and ideas on how to present Shivaji's life story. Last month, the State government had also organised a laser and cultural show at Marine Drive to observe the Golden Jubilee year celebrations.
