The Indian rupee on Friday depreciated by 4 paise against the dollar in the opening trade on the firmness of the greenback against other major currencies.

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the domestic unit was quoted at 46.27 per dollar, a loss of 4 paise over the previous close. The rupee ended 10 paise lower at 46.23 against the US currency in the previous session.

Dealers said the dollar's gain against other currencies mainly influenced the trading sentiment in domestic market here. The dollar has firmed up against major currencies on positive US economic reports after hitting a 14-month low against the euro.
