Ousted vice-principal files case against principal Sheth, 19 others

An ongoing fight between the principal and ousted vice-principal of SP College has become a tit-for-tat affair. Subhash Khandagale, former vice-principal, filed a police complaint against the principal and 19 other college staffers, including senior professors under the Atrocities Act.

In his complaint at the Vishrambaug police station, Khandagale, who belongs to the scheduled caste category, said the accused harassed him by passing casteist comments and abusing him for belonging to a backward caste. He also lodged a complaint with the Scheduled Caste Commission, alleging atrocity and misbehaviour by Principal Dilip Sheth and the others.

"We are in the process of collecting documentary evidence as the complainant has mentioned in his complaint that his promotion was deliberately denied based on casteist harassment," said an official from the Vishrambaug police station.

Sheth refused to comment on the atrocity charges. A source said the police were also investigating if there were vested interests in filing the complaint, as Khandagale had made no mention of harassment from 19 other staff members in his complaint made to the Scheduled Castes Commission against Sheth, a couple of months earlier.

"We want to verify if charges are motivated by revenge," said the source. In June, staff members had blocked the principal's office and stopped admission work, demanding action against Khandagale and two professorsu00a0-- Praveen Ransure, who heads the students' welfare unit, and Saroj Hiremath, BBA course directoru00a0-- for their unruly and abusive behaviour.

Later, the management suspended Khandagle and Ransure. A police complaint was also filed by Sheth against the trio at the Vishrambaug police station in June.
