The National School of Drama is all set to 'act' entertainer with the 11th edition of the Bharat Rang Utsav

Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik, Manoj Bajpai, Naseeruddin Shah and Rajpal Yadav are some of those who passed out from the National School of Drama, just to give you an idea of all the talent that is nurtured here. As the institute readies itself for its 51st year, the annual Bharat Rang Mahotsav brings forth an ensemble of plays for theatre lovers. Here's a quick preview.

Fresh maal

The 12-day do will act as a platform to promote the upcoming pool of talent. Most of the plays included in the festival are collaborative works, based on rich texts, adaptations and plays developed through training and workshops. Over 10 budding theatre personalities will be a part of the 11th edition. "We have adopted a range of contemporary themes to suit the style of the new entrants into the theatrical world," declared Anuradha Kapur, director, NSD.

Desi classics

The histrionics extravaganza will feature 63 productions, out of which 51 are from India and 12 from other countries like Japan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Israel, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Nepal and Poland.
The ensemble of plays deals with a variety of themes that include Rabindranath Tagore's Bidhushak and Dakghar, Vikram Iyengar's Crossings, Malayalam play Ayussinte Pusthakam, Marathi work Awagha Rang Ekachi Zaala and Le Tartuffe which is in Dari.

Firang flavours

Among the international productions, the Czech play - The Painted Worldu00a0is a unique show performed by the best black light effects and images in a story of world continents. Similarly, Le Premiere Fois is collaboration between Swiss and French actors; while the Days of Adel from Israel is set against the backdrop of a psychiatric ward in Jerusalem.

Express yourself


In addition to the above plays, the NSD will also be staging two exhibitionsu00a0one based on the work of theatre legend Badal Sircar and the other one presenting the contribution ofu00a0 the group to the world of theatre in the last five years. The performances will take place at seven venues - Kamani Auditorium, Shri Ram Centre, Meghdoot, LTG Theatre and the rest three in the premises of the NSD at Abhimanch, Sammukh and Bahumukh.
