Samajwadi Party corporator succumbs to bullet injuries

Lucknow: Municipal corporator and Samajwadi Party leader Atul Yadav 'Bunty', who was shot at outside his residence in Hazratganj area on November 1, today succumbed to his injuries at a hospital here, police said.

Yadav (42), an SP corporator from Narhi ward, was shot at by some unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants while he was on his way to meet a family, they said.

He had received bullet injuries in his leg and temple and was on ventilator at the trauma centre of King George Medical University where he succumbed to the injuries in the wee hours today, police said.

Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav has condoled the death of the corporator. "Atul Yadav was a dedicated party worker. His death is a loss to society," he said in a statement.

The post-mortem was conducted early in the morning and later the body was handed over to the family members, police said.

The funeral ceremony was later held at Baikunth Dham cremation ground where several SP leaders among others paid tribute to him.

Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure police force was deployed in Narahi and surrounding area following Yadav's death, police said.
