Hours before being arrested, the minister had been questioned by the CBI for five hours in connection with the multi-crore ponzi scam.
The legislator from the Kamarhati assembly constituency, who arrived at the Salt Lake CGO complex at around 11 AM, went straight to the CBI office and did not speak to waiting media persons. Elaborate security arrangements have been made around the CGO complex housing the CBI office.
The special crime branch of CBI probing the Saradha scam, had served summons on Mitra last month to appear before the agency for questioning. Mitra had taken ill and was admitted to a private nursing home. Later, he was admitted to the state-run SSKM Hospital from where he was released on November 26.
The CBI had last month arrested TMC's Rajya Sabha member Srinjoy Bose in the multi-crore scam.
Another MP Kunal Ghosh was suspended by the party before being arrested last November. The third TMC member arrested in connection with scam was Rajat Majumdar, a former police officer and Trinamool vice president, who was held in August.
