The Child Welfare Committee order came after DPS denied admission to three-year old even after selecting her
The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of Delhi government has asked the Delhi Public School (sector 24, Rohini) to grant admission to three-year-old Ruhani, which it had denied earlier. The CWC order came after MiD DAY had reported how the girl was refused admission even though her name was present in the list of selected candidates in the general category that school had come out with after conducting a draw.

The girl's father Rahul, a resident of Vijay Nagar in North-West Delhi, had submitted her admission form online and had also sent a demand draft of Rs 25 to the school that was mandatory as per the admission guidelines. After the school declared the list of selected candidates on its website,u00a0 Rahul went to the school with the relevant documents to complete Ruhani's admission formalities. However, he was sent back by the school officials and told that name of his daughter had appeared by mistake on the list.
Rahul then lodged a complaint against school principal and management with deputy director of education, North West Zone and Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR). A notice was issued to DPS by DCPCR in this matter. The matter was also taken up by the Child Welfare Committee of Delhi government.
On Tuesday, the CWC issued an order in favour of the child.u00a0
"The CWC is satisfied to note that Delhi Public School has committed an irreparable damage to the child (Ruhani) and the family by conducting a breach of trust, causing insult and humiliation to the family, deprivation of the child rights to girl and attempting to mislead the concerned family, causing abuse of child right and mental harassment to the child by denying admission to her despite approval of admission," read the notice of CWC.
"In the best interest of aggrieved girl child and to safeguard the academic prospects of girl child in affirmative and proactive manner as per the sprit of the juvenile justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 200, this CWC opines that an order is imminent to grant admission to the child on urgent basis," the notice further read.u00a0
The CWC has also asked the DPS to submit a report within seven days on whether the child has been granted the admission or not. Speaking to MiD DAY, Rahul said that he was happy with decision of Child Welfare Committee. "I am relaxed now as Ruhani will be able to start with her schooling," said he.
