In a breakthrough in the dacoity case at Mahendra Jewellers at Laxmi Road, investigating officials from Vishrambaug police station arrested four other suspects around 8 pm, yesterday night. Six others were arrested earlier; two hours after the heist. During the latest arrests, police also revealed that petrol bombs were found.
Motichand Rathod, inspector-in-charge, Vishra-mbaug police station, said, "The four petrol bombs were capable of injuring around 200 people. During questioning, it was revealed that one of the suspects Raju Yadav was given instructions by the others to detonate the bomb and terrorise the public, if the public tried to stop them." The four arrested, identified as Arun Uday Dey (26), Sachin Panduram Bhosale (28), Anirudha Gokhale (34) and Vijay Yuvraj Mohite (35) were picked up from Warje and later sent to Sassoon Hospital for a medical check-up. The total number of arrests has increased to 11 and as the case is further being investigated, more names are being revealed.
"The involvement of several senior officials from various zones has helped quicken the pace of the investigations," Rathod added.
One of the suspects, Arun Dey, who is a goldsmith by profession, had rented a flat at Sankalp Colony, Dhanuri, where the robbery plans were made. Investigations also revealed that Bhosale and Gokhale were previously booked for carrying a country-made revolver.
