After an Intelligence Bureau (IB) alert mentioned terrorists might have reconnoitred the National Defence Academy (NDA), where a passing-out parade is scheduled at the end of the month, security in and around the city was beefed up yesterday
The IB input said five terrorists from the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) might have entered the state to target sensitive installations. The photographs of five suspected terrorists were distributed to all police stations in the city yesterday.

“Though we have received the photographs, their names are not known,” a senior police inspector, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said.
The alert was sounded in the city, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Surat, and Delhi.
A combing operation was on and Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sanjeevkumar Singhal ordered the checking of lodges and nakabandi at various points. The police appealed to citizens to inform them by dialling 100 if they had information about the suspected terrorists.
Security was heightened at sensitive installations, including the NDA and the airport in Lohegaon.
Unconfirmed reports suggested that a team led by Inspector Sunil Tambe of the city police anti-terrorist cell was interrogating a suspect nabbed by the military police at the NDA.
“The state police are taking necessary steps,” Home Minister R R Patil, who was in the city last night, said.
All defence establishments were taking additional care on the security front.
“Due to the terror alert in the country, defence establishments have increased their security and extra precautions will be taken,’ a defence official said. u00a0
