Rehmatbi Dundage was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital and is presently undergoing treatment. Kalimuddin Dundage, woman’s brother, alleged that PMC officials didn’t even serve the family a notice and came to their house in the afternoon after demolishing a few others in the area.u00a0

“They came uninformed. As my sister was cooking in the house, the PMC men dragged her out and started demolishing the house. She just couldn’t bear the trauma and collapsed on the road,” he said. Dundage added that their neighbours took her to the hospital.

Rehmatbi had three sons; two died three years ago. Her only surviving child, who is breadwinner for the family, works as mechanic in a local garage.
Dundage also alleged that the PMC officials were selective when it came to demolishing illegl structures. “The house belonging to those who had contacts with local politicians and builders were spared,” he said.

When contacted, Rajendra Raut, executive engineer of PMC’s building development department, said, “During the demolition drive we heard that a lady had suffered a heart attack. We stalled the work on humanitarian grounds and removed the JCB machine from the area.”

No sooner the news spread, the situation in the area became tense. As many as 80 police personnel were deployed to avert any untoward incident.u00a0
