A day after Shiv Sena candidate Ajay Bhosale was shot and his supporters blamed the NCP-Congress alliance candidate Bapu Pathare for the act, supporters of the two parties went at each other's throats again this time, due to allegations of cash for votes.
Bhosale's supporter Sunny Gavate allegedly spotted Pathare's supporter Vikram Khole distributing cash to voters in Laxmi Nagar yesterday. Gavate then dragged Khole and the cash to the nearest police station.
"A Sena supporter, Sunny Gavate, came here and handed over Rs 20,000 claiming that Khole was distributing them to voters," said Yerawada police station Crime PI Deepak Savant.
He added, "Both the Sena and NCP supporters claimed that they had been threatened by the other at knifepoint, so we have registered complaints against both sides under IPC 506(2) (attacking with an intent to kill).
False claims
However, Pathare refuted Bhosale's claims. "My supporter has been wrongly implicated. Bhosale is making false allegations to get cheap publicity," said Pathare.
He said that Khole was just standing in the street when Bhosale's supporters allegedly beat him and took him to the police station.
