Faridabad-based design company CheapSex has pumped testosterone into humble boxer shorts, along with a dose of desi humour, this January. The idea came up over a casual lunch with Tennessee whiskey between NIFT alumnus and designer Brijesh Dahiya and software engineer Kuldeep Singh.
Dog on dog comes for a cheap Rs 360
"There is a serious void in below-the-belt graphic fashion. So, we decided to play a satirical joke on kitsch, colour and all that is local," says Dahiya, who operates from a studio space in Faridababd called the Gulabo Chhap Design Works.
What a brief
The idea behind CheapSex came from how young people today like to wear trousers so low that you want to hoist them up. "Who would want to give a second glance to regular boxer shorts playing peek-a-boo? We decided to shock people," says Dahiya.
Bawdy bar raised
According to Dahiya, the plain old boxer was crying out for sexual freedom. "It needed its share of fun and colour. This poor guy was always left out. Who would not like a piece of kinky fun in their wardrobe?"
Dahiya and Singh like to put on their "CheapSex glasses" first before scouting for design insights. Their inspiration: everyday colloquial humour, the unusual in the mundane.
CheapSex retails online and at stores across India. A series of unisex boxers with wacky doodles in themes like the Ass Cock, Butt Bite, Chadti Jawani and CheapSex Clinic. Whether it's a row of lanky legs with briefs and boxers around the ankles in Vertical Orgy or a pair with graphics of an a** and a cock (we are referring to the animals), it's all about turning on the heat. And yeah, they have pockets too.
