MiD DAY had reported how the market federation has decided not to grease the palms of MCD staffers any longer

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday morning met traders from Sadar Bazar. The meeting followed MiD DAY's September 1 report, in which the shop owners had pledged to stop bribing Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

The traders apprised Dikshit of their problems and told her the civic agency officials associated with licensing activity demand bribe from them, and urged her to investigate the matter. The traders' body urged the CM to constitute Sadar Bazar Development Board for the improvement of the area and condition of roads and start parking projects in the area.

Thursday's MiD DAY report had highlighted the issue of traders alleging that they were paying up to Rs 100 crore as bribe to MCD officials to get mandatory clearances.

After the meeting Chairman, Federation of Sadar Bazar Trades Association (FESTA)u00a0u00a0 Manohar Lal told MiD-DAY that the CM has assured them of looking into their demands. The CM has also assured them of paying a visit to the area next week, added Lal.u00a0

As reported by MiD DAY, FESTA, which has around 30,000 members, has decided not to succumb to MCD officials and grease their palms, which they have to do each time they apply for licenses and get mandatory clearances for their business outlets from the civic agency. The issue was raised in Delhi Assembly also on Friday following the report. The MLAs too demanded government intervention.
