Singapore Airlines today said it would increase the number of seats on the Kolkata-Singapore route during peak seasons like Durga Puja. The carrier has been boosted by overall air-passenger growth, which has seen a near 20-per cent rise in the calendar year 2017, David Lim, General Manager - India, Singapore Airlines, said.

At present, the airlines operates seven weekly flights to Singapore from Kolkata. Of them, four are weekly services with Boeing-737-800 and three Airbus A330. "While Boeing-737s are 162 seater, the Airbus A330s are 285 seater. During peak season, we shall operate Airbus A330 on all days, increasing the capacity," Lim said. To meet the growing demand during the last two months, the airlines operated nine flights a week from Kolkata to Singapore, he said. Singapore Airlines operates 98 flights a week between Singapore and 11 destinations in India. The carrier has also registered steady growth in the cargo sector, he said.

"On October 29, 2018 Singapore Airlines will complete its 32 years of operation from Kolkata. It launched two weekly services to Kolkata with the Airbus A310 on October 29, 1986," Lim said. Speaking about acquisition of fleet, he said Singapore Airlines is all set to induct 49 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners in its fleet. The first Dreamliner would join the fleet by March this year for operations between Singapore and Osaka. The airline, which operates services to 62 destinations in 32 countries, would be immensely benefitted with all Dreamliners joining the fleet, he added.
