Patna: Six persons, including the main accused, were on Wednesday arrested for allegedly lynching the director of a school after bodies of two students were recovered from a ditch in Bihar's Nalanda district.

All the six persons were arrested from different places under Nalanda Police Station area, Superintendent of Police Siddharth Mohan Jain said.

"Among the six arrested, three were identified from video footage procured from various sources while involvement of three others cropped up during investigations by the police in the case," Jain said.

The main accused, identified as Dharamveer Kumar, is among the arrested.

"Dharamveer is the maternal uncle of a deceased student Sagar and he was the person seen repeatedly beating Sinha with a bamboo pole while he was lying down on the ground," he said. The director of the residential school Devendra Prasad Sinha was mercilessly beaten up by a mob and he died while being treated at the Patna Medical College and Hospital on Sunday last.

According to the postmortem report, the two students - Sagar Kumar and Ravi Kumar - drowned and their bodies did not bear any trace of beating as alleged by their parents.

The mob had ransacked the school as well and set two of its rooms on fire by using LPG cylinders. It also targeted a police team which had gone to the spot.

Four FIRs have already been lodged in connection with the incident. While one FIR was filed by police, others were registered by the principal of the school, one by the parents of the deceased students and a son of Sinha.
