The lure of big bucks spent by overseas patrons during New Year's Eve parties in dance bars led to the arrest of six bar girls and an agent at the domestic airport in Santacruz yesterday. Acting on a tip-off that seven girls were en-route to Delhi airport to board a flight to Dubai, Social Service Branch (SSB) laid a trap and nabbed them.
Three females and three agents, however, fled during the raid, but cops seized their respective passports.

Vasant Dhoble, assistant commissioner of police (SS Branch), informed that the agent arrested has been identified as Shafiq Mohammed Hussain, a resident of Andheri, and was in the process of sending the girls to the middle east to perform shows in dance bars. "The girls were waiting for their respective passports and visas when they were nabbed. They have been booked under Prevention of Illegal Trafficking Act (PITA)," said Dhoble.
According to the police, Indian girls are in demand in gulf countries during the festive period and come end of the year, girls are brought from various states across the country to the city. But, due to the stringent checks at the International airport in Mumbai recently, the agents prefer the girls board a flight from Delhi.u00a0u00a0
"New year events are lucrative for us in gulf countries. In 10 days we earn around Rs 10 lakh, while in India we only earn Rs 40,000 during this period. Hence, we prefer going abroad," said an arrested bar girl.
