Spongy cakes, crusty pies, perky tarts and petit fours and more, Dolci could well be your one-stop-shop for a quick sweet bite or a complete dessert meal
Spongy cakes, crusty pies, perky tarts and petit fours and more, Dolci could well be your one-stop-shop for a quick sweet bite or a complete dessert meal
A little off the buzzing Cunningham road in a bylane is a new dessert nook, Dolci. Though the noise of the traffic doesn't cease here, you are carefully fenced out. Shipra Kumar, owner likes her fences and so do we. We chose to sit outside right by the fence and do some people watching, eavesdropping even.
Ask for a menu and you will be directed indoors to a blackboard menu on top of a pastry counter that we admit looked quite delectable. With just about four tables and hardly any place for more, this dessert cafe has the potential to be one of those well-kept secrets. The trays and linen come with a cafe themed word wrap you can hardly miss.
We decided to begin with a coffee-based beverage to quick start the day. A Dolci Shake (Rs 79) was our choice despite repeated warnings of strong coffee and no milk. The shake was just how we like our coffees, strong, unadulterated, no milk, generous amounts of crushed ice with sugar and some cream. Post the wake up call, we were all set for a dessert-filled breakfast.
The Peach Pie (Rs 45) and the Burnt Lemon Tart (Rs 57) came first. Topped with slivers of almonds and a slice of baked peach, the pie was moist, sweet with a flaky crust. The lemon tart was a tad different from the ordinary, mildly sweet, crusted with intentional burnt bits on the top which gave it an unusual crunch. The sugar high had done its job and the taste buds were now craving something spicy.
We also tried the Pesto Sundried Panini (Rs 153), one of the few short eats available here. Perfectly toasted and steaming hot, the panini was filled with round disks of sundried tomatoes, basil pesto, lettuce and cheese and we found it quite delicious and filling with the fries that came along with it.
We then decided to give in to the temptation that came out of looking at the pastry counter for too long and ordered a Six Layer Cake (Rs 108) and Raspberry Cheesecake (Rs 108).
We suggest you ditch the calorie count and shun any worries for the six pack when digging into one of these. The cake has six evident layers which merge when warmed and could take you straight to chocolate paradise. The ones we could identify were chocolate cream, chocolate ganache and some cream cheese.

We also suspected a filling of mousse in one of the layers. The cake is very sweet and can leave you satiated in just a few bites. So we suggest, order this sinful piece only if you are sharing it.
The cheesecake was nothing to write home about, the cream cheese was a bit underdone though the raspberry syrup was sweet, tangy and quite interesting. Convinced that this dessert caf ufffd breakfast would keep the sweet pangs at bay for a week at the least we called for the cheque.
