Rahul Kaushal, who lost his job during recession, cheated people by promising them easy loans

A former multinational banker, who duped more than 50 people on the pretext of providing them easy bank loan, was arrested by Delhi police from Fatehpur Beri area of south Delhi, on Monday. The accused cheated the people because he lost his job during the recession-hit period of three years. According to the police, the accused has been identified as Rahul Kaushal (27). Police recovered two mobile phones, four SIM cards, five ATM cards, and bank passbooks from him.

Victim's account
Police said, on November 3, complainant Shiv Dutt Sharma, lodged an FIR that a person claiming to be an HDFC Bank executive, Connaught Place, called him and introduced new loan schemes/plans of the bank and promised to provide him a personal loan of Rs 1 lakh easily and fixed up an appointment.u00a0

"Next day, a person who introduced himself as Rahul Kaushal, an executive of HDFC Bank, visited his house.u00a0 The complainant, convinced on the basis of IDs, documents and knowledge of the accused, gave him two signed cheques of Rs 4,300, Rs 4,000, one blank cheque and Rs 1,000 in cash. The following week, Sharma checked the statement of his PNB bank account and noticed a withdrawal of Rs 4,300 from his account through a cheque, which he had given to Rahul Kaushal," a senior police official said.u00a0

During investigation, addresses were verified and they traced out the accused by developing criminal intelligence, which revealed that the accused was a resident of Harsh Vihar. Police conducted a raid and apprehended him.u00a0 Kaushal, was residing with his family in Harsh Vihar area of north-east Delhi.u00a0

Educated cheat
"During interrogation, Rahul confessed to his crime. On sustained interrogation, it was revealed that he was earlier working in the loan department of a prestigious bank, which provides multiple solutions, including loan facility, to people. Kaushal had worked there for three years, but during recession, he lost his job. Due to the in-depth knowledge of the bank's plans and policies, he started cheating people on the pretext of providing them easy bank loans," said DCP (south) Chhaya Sharma.
