A landslide took place at the end of the northbound tunnel of Eastern Freeway on Thursday morning. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident
Confirming the same, MMRDA Joint Project Director Dilp Kawatkar said, “On Thursday morning, a small landslide happened just after the tunnel going towards Chembur ends. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident. The work of removing debris from the road has been started and by 4 pm debris will be cleared and the lane will be opened for traffic.”

Soon after the incident, as a precautionary measure, the two lanes have been closed for the traffic and only one lane for coming and going is operational.
The Eastern Freeway Project which was opened in June is a 16.4-km fast and additional corridor to connect the island city and the eastern suburbs. It runs from Orange Gate to Anik-Panjarpol Link Road and further up to Ghatkopar. It is divided in three parts – One, the corridor from Orange Gate to the beginning of Anik-Panjarpol Link Road (9.29-km); two, the corridor from Anik to the beginning of Panjarpol-Ghatkopar Link Road (4.3-km) and three, Panjarpol to Ghatkopar (2.81-km). MMRDA is working towards completing the Panjarpol-Ghatkopar Link Road.
