On Sunday night, a Mercedes yet again crushed two teenagers who were on a scooty in Faridabad. One of them, Loveleen Kaur (17), has lost her fingers and the thumb of her right toe in the incident. Her friend, Sanjana Bhatia (16), is in a critical state. Kaur and Bhatia were hit by the Mercedes when they were on their way back home in Faridabad on a scooty.

The Mercedes reportedly belongs to an industrialist Purushotam Lal Gupta who deals in iron. He, however, was not there in the car. Police said that his driver Shiv Dutt was driving the car. Dutt has been arrested.u00a0"Bhatia also suffered injuries and is undergoing treatment at Escort hospital. Her condition is critical. Kaur is undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital in Delhi where doctors had to amputate her fingers and thumb of right toe," said the police official, on condition of anonymity.

The official said that both the girls are students of Delhi Public School Faridabad and were returning home after attending chemistry tuition class. As they reached the crossing at Sector 14 in Faridabad, the speeding Mercedes rammed into their scooty from behind. Both the girls were thrown off the bike. They fell on the road and got crushed. The driver accelerated in a bid to flee from the incident spot. But one of the tyres burst and he had to stop the car. The accused then ran away abandoning the Mercedes at the spot.u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0

The passersby informed the police and both the girls were rushed to a private hospital in a private vehicle by the police official. The victims are residents of Town No. 1 in NIT in Faridabad area. Gupta said that his driver Shiv Dutt drives the car. Police traced the driver and arrested him from his house. Dutt told the police that he was heading towards sector 15 from sector 9 when he lost control over the vehicle and rammed into the scooty," said the police official.

An FIR under section 279 (rash and negligent driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of IPC was registered by the police at Faridabad Central Police Station.u00a0"We have arrested the accused driver and have impounded the Mercedes. On May 26, a 30-year-old man was killed in an accident after his motorcycle was allegedly hit by a speeding Mercedes car, driven by a businessman in Mehrauli, South Delhi. Police said the Mercedes driver, identified as 50-year-old Ramesh Khaitan, fled from the scene after abandoning the vehicle. Khaitan reportedly lives in a farmhouse in the area. The victim, identified as Rahul, was employed as a collection agent by a private company. He was returning to his house in north Delhi when the incident occurred. Police also recovered Rs 5 lakh from a bag that he was carrying. "The incident occurred around 7 pm, opposite the Mittal farmhouse in Mehrauli. After hitting the motorcyclist, the driver inadvertently dragged him for a few metres as he tried to speed away. But a crowd gathered at the scene and Khaitan had to leave his car behind," a police officer said.
In yet another incident, a speeding BMW ran over a 62-year-old morning walker near the Akshardham temple in East Delhi on April 8, 2010. Om Dutt Chauhan was taking a walk near the Akshardham chowk when the BMW, which was trying to overtake a bike, hit him, police said. The accident took place near the deceased's house.
