Mulund's new resto bar should have been named Kadipatta Lane and not Spice Lane, given that the chef generously sprinkles curry leaves over everything

It was close to midnight when we dropped by Spice Lane, yet the resto bar was buzzing. Families, office-goers and local businessmen comprised their clientele. Though we found an empty table easily, getting a waiter to attend to us was an entirely different experience.
Kombdi Curry
Spice Lane is perhaps one of the few restaurants in the suburb where you can have a drink while giggly children run around your knees. Skip this place if you're looking to have a quiet drink at the end of a long day.
If are ready to brave the noise in the form of loud conversations and unfamiliar ambience music, we suggest you stay away from the cocktail menu. We opted for the Lemon Drop (Rs 160), which was supposed to be citrus-infused vodka (with a wedge of lemon) poured into a glass rimmed with sugar.
What we got was a fizzy drink with lime and lemon wedges and no sugar on the glass rim. The drink was too sweet, but very potent, so full marks for that! We also requested for a mocktail: Bora Bora (Rs 120), which turned out to be a syrupy disappointment.
Along with the drinks, we decided to munch on Nachos with Salsa Sauce (Rs 120) (which, for some reason, was mentioned under the Italian cuisine menu). Now, we've heard about Indianising international cuisine, but this dish had us flummoxed.
The nachos tasted more like khakra and the so-called Salsa Dip was Mango Chunda with chilli flakes. Bummer! Having learnt our lesson, we stuck to desi cuisine for the main course and asked for the Methi Chamani Lasuni (Rs 150) from the North Indian menu, Kombdi Curry (Rs 180) and Narali Bhat (Rs 110) from the Malvani menu. All three dishes arrived with a heavy garnish of curry leaves.
Don't ask us how a Punjabi dish got a kadipatta tadka, but we can tell you that these didn't taste too bad. The Methi Chamani Lasuni got a thumbs up. But the Kombdi Curry scored a 50-50. While the curry was great, the chicken pieces were not very well cooked. The Narali Bhat, however, was the winner. Lightly spiced, the rice was yummy even on its own.
There's not much we can say about the service at Spice Lane -- there were at least four different waiters serving us. But for the Narali Bhat, we'd probably never go back here.
