62-year-old husband stabs 59-year-old wife after trouble over property; wife is critical
For about forty years they supported each other. And nothing should have changed this happy marriage scene except when it was time for 62-year-old Baljeet Singh and his 59-year-old wife Manjeet Kaur to hold hands and walk into the sunset, they drew blood over a property.
Baljeet stabbed Manjeet with a kitchen knife after she refused to transfer a house that was on her name, to him.
The elderly couple, residing at Tilak Nagar in west Delhi, had a heated argument on Wednesday night. The police said Baljeet stabbed his wife after the argument.
"At around 11 pm on Wednesday, their neighbours heard Manjeet's cries and rushed to their home. They saw Manjeet wounded and took her to the Deen Dayal Upadhaya Hospital. Her condition deteriorated and she was referred to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. She is undergoing treatment but her condition is said to be critical. We have registered a case and arrested Baljeet," said a police official.
Baljeet owns an auto spares parts shop and had recently bought a new house at Tilak Nagar. But the property was in Manjeet's name.
The police said that the accused has confessed to have become suspicious of his wife's activities over the last month and had asked her to sign some legal documents pertaining to the ownership of the house.
The couple has four daughters and two sons but they live separately.
