Steer clear of last-minute cramming: Experts

Part III of MiD DAY series for SSC and HSC students

The exam season is here again, but that is no reason to break into a sweat. With some effort, the dread associated with examinations can be driven away.

Experts believe that last-minute cramming hardly helps and instead turns out to be stressful.

They say it is unlikely that students will get good marks with eleventh-hour cramming as they won't be able to remember much.

Kiran Jadhav, vice principal, Vikhe Patil Memorial School, says that students usually stress themselves out a few days or hours before the examinations.

"They just keep thinking about it and stress themselves out. In this way, the chances of forgetting what they have studied, increases," Jadhav said.

Also, getting a good night sleep is essential before the exams.

Manisha Sablok, principal, MIT English School adds that the students ought to keep their cool.

"Do not let pressure get to your mind. If you forget something, do not get tensed. Just concentrate on other questions and finish them off," she advised.

Jadhav also points that a few days before the exams, students should write down important formulas, dates, maps, charts, diagrams on a sheet of paper and put them at spot where they can see them often.

"If you keep looking at them, it will help the students remember the important details which are very helpful,"u00a0 Jadhav said.

Experts also believe that avoiding junk food and consuming a balanced diet also helps students during examinations. It helps keep their body and mind healthy.
