Thieves fled with cassette decks from RK Puram colony

Delhi police which is responsible for the security of the national capital cannot even guard their own belongings. Stereo systems of six cars of police officials were stolen on Tuesday midnight from Delhi Police Colony at RK Puram in south Delhi.

The incident came to light when a resident of the society made a PCR call on Wednesday morning about the robbery. Usually one security guard stands guard at one of the gates whereas the other gate of the colony remains open and strangers can walk in anytime.

Out of tune
One of the car owners whose cassette deck was stolen, Sunil, said: "I found out about the theft at seven in the morning. One of my neighbours asked me to check my car before leaving for work. When I went to have a look, I saw that the window pane of my car was broken and the stereo system worth Rs 12,000 was missing." He said the cover of the deck was lying on the rear seat of the car amongst broken glass pieces.

Another resident, Yavender Singh, said it was not the lone incident of theft in the colony. He said: "I was supposed to take my car for servicing today. Instead, when I woke up this morning, I found its cassette deck costing Rs 6000 was stolen and the window pane was broken. This time it is my car deck but only a month back someone has snatched a chain from my mother right near my house." The thieves managed to steal the stereo systems from six cars. They fled only after a siren blared when they tried to open the door of the seventh car.

Past imperfect
Residents complained that there have been several cases of theft in the colony in the past three months. In spite of registering complaints regarding the same, no action has been taken by the cops to beef up the security.
