With an intention to put an end to the practise of travelling on footboards and performing stunts in moving trains -- which recently claimed a 14-year-old boy's life -- more than 200 studentsfrom Birla College in Kalyan have decided to conduct an awareness campaign at stations between Karjat and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus today
Students of second and third year degree courses would be a part of the campaign that will last from 9 am to 2 pm. “The issues we’re dealing with are serious and awareness campaign for commuters is a must. The number of deaths due to stunts, and cases of molestation, are increasing with each passing day,” said Padma Dhamne, director of NGO Giants International.u00a0

Apart from travelling in groups, students would be seen standing at stations holding placards. They would also be interacting with commuters, informing them about the hazards of travelling on footboards or performing stunts in moving trains. Ten slogans have been finalised for the campaign.
“Students will be carrying placards displaying the message and will travel in trains wearing t-shirts exhibiting the slogans,” said Dhamne. Atul Rane, chief public relations officer (PRO) for Central Railway, said the initiative taken by the students was praiseworthy.u00a0
