There's hectic activity happening in a building in Indiranagar, an upscale neighbourhood in the city. Masons shout out orders to their crew, carpenters hammer away and electricians create a roar with their drilling machine. But this is music to Chris Avinash and Amita Singh's ears.

Kyra, the performing arts centre that promises to give Bangalore a taste of supper theatre, is taking form here, and as entertainment directors of the project, Chris and Amita are visibly excited.

"Supper theatre is a Western entertainment concept which we hope to replicate with good results here. We also know that some directors may not be comfortable with the idea that the audience is busy with food and drink, instead of the play. In such cases, there will be no service," he explains.

The idea is to encourage interactive plays, where the audience becomes part of the play. Kyra also hopes to host dance performances, jazz bands and rock bands.

"We want to give an opportunity to all forms of art, even kalaripayattu and yakshagana," he adds.

Both Chris and Amita believe that they are working on an idea whose time has come. "It remains to be seen how the audience will respond. But we are hopeful because Bangaloreans have a deep and abiding interest in the fine arts and in theatre," says Amita.

While Kyra, the fine dining restaurant opened yesterday, the arts centre will be ready by mid April.u00a0
