The bikers will pedal through narrow dirt paths, made more difficult with broken rocks and thorny Kikar trees during the Firestorm mountain biking race. MiD Day checked out the trail with some bikers and found out that with probability of Neelgai or Sambhar from the Asola Wildlife sanctuary crossing the track quite high, the race is bound to be filled with thrills and spills. The race will see professionals do multi laps covering a total of 35 kilometres and amateurs doing a single lap of around six kilometres.
"It took us months to zero in on this trail. We wanted to offer bikers something which they had not seen before and give them a proper feel of mountain biking in Delhi itself. There were many glitches but we finally decided on the Aravalli hills. We are expecting about 120 adventure lovers to race on this rough mountain terrain on March 26," said Shiv Inder Singh, Managing Director, Firefox.
Bicycle enthusiasts of the NCR are excited about this first of its kind race. "We pedal in small groups but so far we didn't have a platformu00a0 to showcase our calibre. We usually looked at Uttarakhand for such mountain biking events," said Sanjay Saxena, a biking enthusiast.
Talking about how the event will help promote adventure sports among the youth, Singh said, "Mountain biking is a relatively new adventure sport in India. We aim to organise such competitions every year in different parts of the country and create awareness about cycling as an eco-friendly and health friendly exercise."
The entry fee for participating in Firestorm is Rs 500 per participant and the winners will be awarded cash prizes and gifts worth more than Rs 4 lakh. The participants can download the registration form from the website -www.firestormmtb.com. Online registration is also available at the website on first come, first serve basis.
