Maharajas are not made to audit their accounts or wealth but if you are just a college by that name you are not supposed to enjoy that luxury.
The Maharaja Agrasen College of Delhi University opened a joint account with a media institute to run mass communication courses, which has never been audited. The college has a account in a Mayur Vihar bank but the joint account was opened in a private bank in Rajouri Garden. "It charges Rs 15,000 from each for the course but no student has got any placement anywhere so far," a college faculty member told MiD DAY, requesting anonymity.
Apart from this there are allegations of financial irregularities against the college chairman, AR Verma a former Mayor andu00a0 the principal, Dr Sunil Sondhi.
It has been learnt that the college went for a tour to Manali, twice in a financial year, and stayed at the hotel which is owned by Verma's son.
"While 60 per cent of the trip expenditure was paid from the student society fund, the rest 40 per cent was contributed by the students. Interestingly, though adventure activity fee collected for the financial year had been exhausted in the first trip only, second trip was again organised for the same destination," a college faculty member said, requesting anonymity.
Verma refuted the charge saying, "I have no personal interest. The college organises trips to several places.
Wherever they find the cheapest, they choose that place only. I helped them by giving concessions."
There are allegations against the college principal that he was using his position for his personal benefits. It was alleged that he is claiming conveyance much more than what he was entitled to.
