Amidst the fire brimstone and vitriol that passes for virtual content these days, it’s nice to know that a collection of grabs from the speeches of the soft spoken and reticent Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of the Tata group has gone viral recently.

Made by a young admirer, the 12.10 sec unauthorised video has the former Tata chairman championing such old fashioned and forgotten virtues, as ‘humility,’ ‘trust,’ and ‘making a difference’ amongst his top 10 rules for success.
Ratan Tata with the first Indica off the assembly line
That it has found such popularity in the digital world especially amongst a young audience, reveals that there is still a yearning for traditional values, though the turn in recent affairs of the country doesn’t indicate this.
But what struck us most was the section when Tata listed ‘doing what cannot be done’ as one of his principles, giving the example of producing the first indigenously built car that had rolled off the Tata gangway — the humble Indica. “Everyone told me that it could not be done,” he said candidly, adding, “But when I look back, nothing else has given me as much satisfaction as producing that car and proving my critics wrong.”
Taking it on her chin
“Saved by my chin-i-chin-chin,” is how actress and TV host Tara Sharma blogged about her recent hover board accident, for which she took some stitches on her face recently.

We had met the actress at a family wedding last week and commended her on the striking bikini clad picture she had posted of herself on social media. “That was a few moments before the accident,” she said explaining, “Sunday is our family chill out day.
Most often swimming and relaxing at a pool. It was one such Sunday when for some bizarre reason I stopped a young child who was whizzing along on his hover board and asked him if I could please have a turn.” She shuddered, “I was not deliberately trying to be cool, but I admit that somewhere within perhaps, I wanted to show that us Mums can be daring.”
What resulted was one of the most painful experiences of her life she said and a frantic dash to a hospital. “Thank God I’m fine now and the stitches don’t show,” said the newly chastened hover-boarder.
Mumbai to LA
Word comes in that Bombay Boy and restaurateur, Rohan Talwar, has been missing from the SoBo scene of late. Rohan, the scion of the Nitco Tiles empire, opened the Colaba favorite, Ellipsis restaurant and bar in 2012.

The restaurant went through a short turbulent phase recently with a change of kitchen guard, but things seem to be looking up for the establishment, as the Thomas Keller-trained Chef Phuong Tran has taken over as executive chef.
As for Rohan, after living in cities like London, New York and Sydney, he now finds himself a stone’s throw from Hollywood in Los Angeles, as owner of Norah, his newly opened restaurant and cocktail bar on Santa Monica Blvd.
Helmed by chef Mike Williams and conceptualised by Rohan, Norah, only a few weeks old, has Variety terming it ‘rustic-elegant’ and an eater claiming, “Norah charms the pants off the West Hollywood Dining Scene.”
Our star-struck source who had visited the chic eatery said, “I spotted no less than three Hollywood actors there over two evenings and recommend the lobster bolognese gnocchi and heritage pork glazed with cider”.
Nice!
Disco Deewane on a screen near you
Zoheb Hasan, one half of the eighties popular, sister-brother duo of Nazia and Zoheb, who had wowed listeners with their 1981 chart busting album, Disco Deewane, has announced that a Bollywood film on the lives of Nazia and him featuring their music through the years.
Nazia and Zoheb Hasan
Deewane had topped the charts in 14 countries (It is said to have sold 100,000 records within a day of its release in Mumbai alone) and went on to becoming the No 1 selling pop Asian album.
Kareena and Ranbir Kapoor
The Pakistani siblings, who had lived between London and Lahore, had been at the peak of their success when Nazia had died tragically cutting short a promising career. Who will play the siblings if indeed such a film is made? Zoheb has put out a communication inviting lookalikes who can act/dance to write in.
But our bets are on real life cousins: Ranbir and Kareena. Anyone game?
The (N) Ice Man Cometh
From the Capital comes this insight into some nifty PR hokey pokey. Apparently there’s this leading Mumbai group that has perfected the art of ‘managing the environment.’
“When a new bureaucrat arrives in Delhi, they make sure that their PR person befriends him in the first few weeks of his arrival,” said a Lutyen’s grande dame, adding, “The PR then proceeds to inveigle himself into the heart of the bureaucrat’s family, helping with the setting up of the home, with school and club enrollments, etc.”
Such thoughtfulness? We remarked. “Yes” said the source, “In one recent case they even sent over a huge refrigerator stacked with the family’s favourite foods — chocolates cheeses, wines, even the preferred mineral water.” The iceman cometh! We exclaimed. “Even better,” said the Lutyen’s grande dame drolly, “The (N)ice man cometh!”
