BBMP commissioner Bharat Lal Meena's initiative councillors' portals will allow citizens to lodge complaints and monitor action taken
BBMP commissioner Bharat Lal Meena expects his latest initiative councillors' portal to bridge gap between voters, councillors and BBMP officials. Meena also expects the portal to function as a grievance redressal system.
"Each of 198 elected representatives will have a portal, which will also be portals of their respective wards.

Besides providing basic information like geography and who's who pertaining to respective wards, the portal aims to make councillors accountable and answerable," explained a senior BBMP official requesting anonymity.

Grievances reported at BBMP control rooms, help desks and to BBMP top brass, including the commissioner's office will be forwarded to the concerned councillor's portal.
Besides monitoring how a councillor adresses each grievance, the system will also serve as an online record of aspects like the date on which a complaint was registered and the date on which action was instituted, and the final outcome.

It will also carry other updates like orders pertaining to public works in the ward, and utility services sanctioned.
"This will make councillors more responsible," explained Dr S Khandre, public relations officer, BBMP.

"As the portal would have details of a complaint and steps taken for redressal, both officials and public representatives will be answerable for delays in addressing issues related to their wards.

One can't blame the other."
While councillors addressing issues in time would be applauded, those responsible for undue delays will be answerable to voters, who can access information online, when they please.
The portal will also be used for circulating internal circulars, notices and other updates on administrative decisions to councillors.

The site under construction, say officials, is expected to be operational in a month's time.
"We hope the portals become functional after commissioner's final nod," added Khandre. "Councillors will be given orientation on the portal's features and tips on using it effectively."
