You'd miss this corner shop if you blinked as you wove your way around the maze that Arun Bazar is.

The shopping street in Santacruz known for its bridal glitz, and pots and pans, also has a sandwich shop called Swastik Sandwich, tucked away next to a sari store that will make you crawl back into the maze for more.

When the pokey establishment run by Om Prakash Sharma and family (the women made the chutneys and masalas upstairs and the men took control of the shop and the sandwich-making) opened branches across the burbs, we speed dialled.

Revamped as Sandwizza, it has a busy menu that offers paneer and brown bread options for all sandwiches. That won them instant diet-brownie points.

We ordered three sandwiches the Activity Toast (Rs 30); an all-time hit, the Basilbite (Rs 80) made with tulsi chutney, and Gberribite (Rs 60) with gooseberry chutney spread.

The order arrived half an hour later packaged in vibrant boxes. Our appetite tanked as soon as we opened the boxes to find rather cold sandwiches.

The Activity Toast, which is packed with a lightly spiced potato-onion mash, was the biggest let down. The Gberribite lost its bite too.

Even though its filling cheese, bell peppers, carrot slivers, tomato and cucumber, seemed like value for money, it had no trace of the tangy gooseberry chutney we were promised.

The Basilbite with paneer was an improvement but not enough to make us want to order again. And, two of the sandwiches we ordered came highly recommended on the menu!u00a0

We could have rustled up better stuff at home.
