Letdown: Shakuntala Devi alleged that despite cops knowing about the
accused, they failed to make an arrest, or recover the valuables
Devi, whose gold valuables worth around Rs 8. 5 were stolen by her maidservant, is running from pillar to post to get them back. Though the police have managed to recover part of the stolen booty, the remaining valuables worth Rs 7.5 lakh are yet to be retrieved.
"I have been termed as the most intelligent person on earth, who brought fame to India, but our city police have no only making a fool out of me, but also insult me, when I contact them to enquire about the progress of the case," said Devi.
Lokayukta officials have taken up the complaint and have initiated an enquiry in this regard.
In her complaint, Devi said that despite the police knew about the accused, they failed to act on either securing her arrest, or recovering the valuables.

"The inspector and the senior police officers, including the DCP, avoid talking to me," she added.
"I have been postponing my officials trip abroad, on the assurance of Assistant Commissioner of Police, stating that they would hand over the valuables, but nothing has happened until date," she added.
"The police are now treating me as an accused and the accused as victim," she said.
However, Deputy Commissioner of police (south) Sonia Narang said that there is no delay in the investigations. "The Basavanagudi police are continuously working on it and have questioned the accused many times.
"However, we are following rules, ensuring that human rights are not violated," he added.
