TODAY'S Raksha Bandhan. And it's also International Beer Day. But not many in this city of pubs know that. Not even the managements of pubs and bars.
Shibu Thomas, owner of Club Nero, earlier known as F bar and kitchen, said: "I didn't even realise that it was International Beer day, until you told me. I will plan something now that I know and we can send out promo messages through our event management company," he said.u00a0
Staff at TGIF, the well-known watering hole on Old Airport Road said they were not aware of Beer Day either and had not planned any event around it.
When we checked with pubs in the star hotels, the response was the same.
The only exception was Carlton of Club Nyx, who said, "I'm know it's International Beer Day today. We are bringing down DJ Dev from Mumbai, who has just cut his latest album. We will also have some other special offers."
The beginning of beer day
At a time when the number of 'days' dedicated to everything from love to lollipops have been increasing steadily, a 'beer day' could not have been far behind.
Unlike the famous Oktoberfest beer festival in Germany, attended by around six million people every year, the International Beer Day aspires to be a global event. The brains, or rather the bellies behind it, belong to some US students who organised a 'Beerstorming' session. According to their website, Beerstorming is "drinking lots of beer to come up with brilliant ideas for fun or profit or simply because you like doing it."
