Top IAS officers are pledging their eyes today, the concluding day of Eye Donation Fortnight
Karnataka biggies will be pledging their eyes today (Wednesday? Check)u00a0 to Narayana Nethralaya's Dr Rajkumar Eye Bank to commemorate Eye Donation Fortnight.
Narayana Nethralaya has organised a programme for the state's top officials includingu00a0 principal secretaries and deputy secretaries at Vidhana Soudha's conference hall on the concluding day of Eye Donation Fortnight.
Dr K Bhujang Shetty, chairman, Narayana Nethralaya, said, "I am glad that more and more people are coming forward to pledge their eyes. We approached chief secretary Sudhakar Rao and requested him to support the noble cause and he agreed immediately. We are expecting around 150 people to pledge their precious eyes to the Dr Rajkumar Eye Bank."
Despite the assurance, Sudhakar Rao will have to give the programme a miss.
"Unfortunately I am in Delhi for a meeting with the Prime Minister," he told MiD DAY.
K Jairaj, principal secretary (energy department), is also not in Bangalore but promised that "Once I return, I will talk to them and pledge my eyes. This is a great move."
But other secretaries will be there at the programme.
Principal secretary (finance), M R Sreenivasa Murthy, is one of them. "People should come forward to donate their eyes as there is no harm in it. By doing it, one can give eyesight to a blind person and make him see the world."
According to Shetty, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa's cabinet ministers have already pledged their eyes. So have many celebrities including actors and actresses.
"We are planning to get more people to come forward. We are planning to approach the city police commissioner and get the whole police department into our net and also Rotary Club members," he added.
