Sankranti or Pongal celebrations came alive with a unique fashion show in the city.

The fashion show witnessed some beautiful models strutting about on the stage in all kinds of festive attire and had the audience asking for more. If you thought the fashion show would showcase Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukherjee or Katrina Kaif, you were totally wrong!

Kombu Mela, a fashion show was held in Iskcon and the models that walked the ramp were cows! This fashion show for cows has been held for the past three years in Bangalore and this time the venue was the large open theatre in Iskcon.

"As per the Indian tradition, there are 7 mothers. Among these mothers is also the cow," said Iskcon vice-president, Chanchalapati Das on the eve of the fashion show. "Regard for cows in India is diminishing. This is a good opportunity to show people, especially youngsters how gentle and loveable these docile animals are," he said.u00a0

Titled 'Hasugala Soundarya Spardhe', the show portrayed 15 cows, decked in all their festive grandeur. The 15 beauties belong to the Iskcon dairy; 14 teams, comprising 3 members contested in the show.

"It's an honour to participate in such a competition," said Pankaj Kumar, student of a business school, who came all the way from Rajasthan to participate in the event.

Unusual

"I could not believe my ears when they said there's going to be a fashion show for cows! But when I came here it turned out to be true," said an avid spectator.u00a0

Another spectator said, "Granted, Sankranti is a harvest festival, but why confine it only to rural areas? In any festivity cows take a prominent position," he said.

And now for the results. The third prize winner was Surabhi, second was Nandini and the first place winner was decorated with the title Punyakoti.u00a0

Each team was not just judged by the appearance of their cow but also how eco-friendly the adornments were.
