their minds be fed, with knowledge whose value is more than bread." Does this make sense? If you went "Huh?" at that clue, you wouldn't have made it at last year's The Amazing Hunt, an annual treasure hunt that Bandra hosts. This year's event kicks off on May 31, and will lead the winning team to a cash prize.
Organised by a team of four youngsters Keith D'souza, Nikhil Carneiro, Makushla Santimano and Shaun the treasure hunt will span the boundaries of the parishes of Mt Carmel, Francis of Assissi, St Peters and St Andrews.
It will extend to Hill Road in the north and Reclamation in the south. "The concept is a take-off on the Amazing Race, where participants have to crack clues and perform varied tasks simultaneously. We are looking at a maximum of 10 teams. Each will be assigned a specific colour, and will include five boys and five girls," says Nikhil.
Elton Nomory, who participated in last year's treasure hunt, says, "The biggest challenge for participants is not only to crack clues but also to work as a team. Most of us thought we knew everything there was to know about Bandra, but the clues were tough."
He recounts how while trying to decipher a clue about the land on which Mt Carmel Church now stands, they had to find a plaque that told them about the history of the place something they had passed often, but never bothered to stop and read.
The Amazing Hunt will be held on May 31, and will begin at 10 am, end at 1 pm. Last date for registration is May 29. Registration forms are available at Mt Carmel Church office. Call: 26421589. The Amazing Hunt is open to youngsters between 15 and 30 years. The contestant fee per team is Rs 100. Participants can travel only on foot.
