Though the proposal for the Swargate bus depot was mooted much earlier, it was delayed owing to non-availability of land. Finally, only after the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation allotted the required land was the traffic department able to set up their booth.
"We had allotted the land two months ago. This initiative will benefit commuters particularly those who alight at the Swargate ST depot at night," said Vijaykumar Diwte. MSRTC officials said the help booth would benefit commuters travelling in the 2,700 buses that ply to and fro from the Swargate depot. Of these, about 600 buses arrive at the depot between 11pm and 5 am.
"Commuters often come to us after rickshaws refuse to ply on specific routes or overcharge them; the traffic help booth will certainly help them," said Diwte. One PSI and four constables of the traffic division will ensure the smooth functioning of the booth.
