The train was one of the first superfast electric passenger trains in the Indian Railways and had also been among the first to have a dining car for its passengers.

"I live in Pune, but since all practice is in Mumbai I travel daily on the Deccan Queen. On a daily basis I travel on the basis of the schedule of the train," a lawyer who is one of hundreds of commuters to travel by the train said.
It was also the first train to radically reduce the travelling time between the two cities.
Departing from Pune at 07:15 hours daily the train, with distinctive white and blue compartments, ferries its passengers to Mumbai by 10:30 hours and then takes them leaves on its return journey at 17:10 hours.
On the 80th anniversary of the train, regular commuters plan have said they plan to a cake in celebration of the Deccan Queen and it crossed many more milestones in the future.
