Two students pursuing MBA were arrested by the Hadapsar police yesterday after one of them was found to be appearing fraudulently for a diploma examination in place of the other.
The suspect has been identified as Atul Gangadhar Deshmukh (23) from Latur. His friend Shrikant Govindrao Bhise (23) from Usmanabad, who conspired in the crime, was also arrested.
The incident came to light after the invigilator at the examination centre noticed the changed photograph on the hall ticket. About 1,500 candidates were at the centre to appear for the examination. Police Inspector Pandharinath Mandhare, Police Constable Balasaheb Kharke and Police Constable Sandeep Dalvi made the arrests yesterday aroundu00a01 pm.
Deshmukh and Bhise were staying at a room in Navi Peth. Their parents are farmers.
Deshmukh had enrolled to appear for a certificate exam for Government Diploma in Co-operation and Accounting (GDC & A), but it was Bhise who turned up at the exam centre in Sadhana High School in Hadapsar, the police said.

Police Inspector Pandharinath Mandhare of the Hadapsar police station, said: "The two had changed the photo on Bhise's hall ticket. The invigilators had an inkling that something was amiss. He then checked the records and the hall ticket. He found that the person appearing was different from the one who enrolled."
Bhise is student of Jayawant Shikshan Prasarak Mandal Institute of Management, while Deshmukh is pursuing his MBA from Mamasaheb Mohol Management Institute. "Both of them will be produced in the court today," Mandhare said.
