Cops puzzled as last four digits on the licence plates are same; both are Marutis

One body found on Sunday in west Delhi, another on Tuesday in east Delhi. Now, here's the twist - both corpses were found in cars from the Maruti stable and the licenceu00a0plates plates had 7897 as the last four digits. Coincidence? Delhi police believes so.

According to the cops, Gopal, who was found dead inside his Maruti 800 (number plate - DL4CDC7897) in Vikaspuri area on October 17, had probably committed suicide. Beer bottles were reportedly found inside the vehicle and keys were found in the deceased's possession. On the other hand, Ram Nath Singhla, a businessman from Chandigarh, who had a residence in Safdarjung area of south Delhi, was allegedly murdered inside his Maruti Swift (number plate - DL3CAG 7897) on October 19. The car was found near Ganesh Nagar area of east Delhi, with the body draped in sheets of three different colours lying inside. An illicit affair is suspected to be behind the killing.u00a0
Ram Nath was carrying two cell phones and he reportedly went to meet a girl in Laxmi Nagar after which both his mobiles were found switched off.
"At around 6:54 pm the last call was made from his cell phone. It was a woman who called up his driver Shankar and spoke only for a minute and disconnected the phone," said a police officer close to the investigation.
"If your sir's wife (Ram Nath's wife) disturbs you and asks anything about him tell her that he is busy at a private meeting," a police official quoted the woman's directive to the driver.The police officer added that Ram Nath was carrying around 10 lakh rupees in cash. He left for Delhi from Chandigarh on Sunday. On the way he decided to meet his friend. He dropped his driver near Badarpur and went towards Laxmi Nagar alone.
"One of his mobiles with an MTNL connection was found active till 2:09 pm on October 17. The last call he received on the number came at around 12:30 pm and he spoke for only half-a-minute. He called up someone at around 2:08 pm. After this the cell phone was switched off.
The second phone with a Vodafone connection was on till 6:54 pm. A call was made on this number from somewhere in east Delhi. Our investigations have clearly pointed out that it was the same girl who called up his driver Shankar too," said a police source.
He added that the girl could be behind the murder as she knew Singhla was carrying a huge amount of cash. She reportedly lives near the Noida border.
