SHO Arvind Kumar and SI Balbir were suspended on october 4. When MiD DAY tried to contact DCP, central district, Jaspal Singh, he was not available for comments.
"They have not been suspended by our DCP, (central district) Jaspal Singh. It was Commissioner Dadwal who took this decision. They have been suspended in connection with the sodomy and rape case that shocked the city. But not because of improper handling of this case but after victims' mother alleged that she was threatened by the SHO," said a police source.
The victim' s mother had accused before the media that she used to complain about the accused cab driver Lalit Ratawal to SHO Arvind Kumar but each time she was forced to take back her complaint.
Lalit Ratawal had allegedly been sexually abusing the girl and her two brothers for over a year. He was arrested on September 17.
Prasad Nagar police had been facing flak for poor handling of the case since it was reported.
"The decision of suspending the cops came directly from the CP," added the source.
